Japanese Film Festival (February 3 - 7, 2026)
2026/2/10
From 3 to 7 February 2026, the Embassy of Japan in Seychelles organized the 4th edition of the Japanese Film Festival at ICCS in Victoria, in collaboration with the Japan Foundation and the Seychelles Department of Culture, Arts and National Heritage.
This year's film festival was expanded beyond its usual scope as part of the Japan Foundation's Africa Tour of the Japanese Film Festival, in connection with TICAD 9, the Tokyo International Conference on African Development, held in Yokohama, Japan in August last year.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Seychelles. As the new year just began, the Festival served as a kickoff to celebrating the milestone year.
The opening screening of the film “FATHER OF THE MILKY WAY RAILROAD” was attended by distinguished guests, including Hon. Justice Anthony Fernando, President of the Court of Appeal, Mrs. Amanda Berstein, Minister for Tourism and Culture, Ms. Eveline Rose, Minister of Local Government and Inner Islands, members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and representatives from the cultural and educational sectors.
The films provided by the Japan Foundation were well received by audiences, offering them a fresh perspective on Japanese culture, history, traditions, and the artistry of Japanese cinema. The Festival served as a great opportunity to deepen cross-cultural understanding and friendship between Japan and Seychelles.

Remarks by Mrs. Amanda Berstein, Minister for Tourism and Culture Remarks by Ambassador SAKUTA, Makoto
