Foundation stone laying ceremony for new Marine Police Headquarters held at Perseverance

The Ceremony marking the beginning of construction for Marine Police Headquarters was held at Perseverance on June 26th, 2025, in attendance of Mr Errol FONSEKA, Minister of Interior Affairs, Mr Ted BARBE, Commissioner of Police, Mr ONO Tomoyuki, Charge d’Affairs ad interim of the Embassy of Japan as well as representatives of Seychelles Infrastructure Agency (SIA), Department of Foreign Affairs, Consultants and of Contractor.
Commissioner of Police Ted BARBE noted that new base will enhance Seychelles’ capacity to detect and respond to illegal activities in its waters, including the smuggling of drugs and breaches of maritime law. He expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for funding the project and to the consultants, the SIA, and the Department of Foreign Affairs, for the support in bringing the vision to life.
Mr ONO Tomoyuki, reading the message in the name of H.E.Mr SAKUTA Makoto, Ambassador of Japan in Seychelles, unable to attend, expressed his sincere gratitude for the efforts of the stakeholders and wished safety to be maintained during the works. He also announced the TICAD9 Summit to be held soon in August and expressed his hope for Seychelles’ contribution to Summit’s outcome.
