Book Donation to Seychelles National Library through READ JAPAN PROJECT
2025/4/23
On April 23, 2025, the UNESCO designated World Book and Copyright Day, a total of 65 English-language books covering a wide range of topics on Japan, including politics, economics, society, culture, literature, art, sports and history, were donated to the Seychelles National Library as part of the READ JAPAN PROJECT, a book donation project to promote understanding of Japan by the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research. This is the second book donation to the Seychelles National Library under this project.
This project was initiated by the Nippon Foundation in 2008 with the aim of promoting understanding of Japan around the world (currently being implemented by the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research with financial support from the Nippon Foundation). To date, the project has donated some 98,000 books to more than 1,400 institutions in over 150 countries.
In his remarks at the handover ceremony organised on this special day by the Seychelles National Library and the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts, Ambassador Sakuta said that the project reflects the deep and enduring mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Seychelles, and he hopes that these books will encourage especially young, aspiring Seychellois to make the most of them, deepen their interest and knowledge of Japan, and ultimately serve as a bridge between our two countries.
