English Rakugo Show by Japanese English Rakugo Performer Kimochi
2025/2/17
On February 12 and 13, 2025, the Embassy of Japan in Seychelles invited Japanese English Rakugo performer Mr Kimochi to Seychelles and organised English Rakugo shows at the National Theatre in Mont Fleuri on Mahé Island, in collaboration with the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage, and the Arts.
For many in the audience, it was their first time experiencing English Rakugo. Before the main performance, Mr Kimochi introduced the audience to the history and traditions of Rakugo, the use of props, and its distinctive storytelling techniques. His engaging performance and punchlines made the audience into laughter many times.
In addition to the two performances, we organised a special workshop for the National Conservatoire of Performing Arts students, where they had the chance to step onto the cushion on stage and experience performing Rakugo themselves.
This event was a meaningful opportunity to deepen cultural exchange and friendship between Japan and Seychelles.
