Japanese High School Students Visit Seychelles

2025/1/31
From January 20 to 26 in 2025, six Japanese high school students along with two teachers visited Seychelles under the World Expo International Exchange Programme of the Japanese government. They represented two high schools: Ozora High School in Ozora Town, Hokkaido, and Reihoku High School in Motoyama Town, Kochi Prefecture.

During their stay, they were warmly welcomed by English River Secondary School and Anse Royale Secondary School, where they had valuable exchanges with the students there. The activities included traditional music, dance, games, food, and art. It was a wonderful experience for them to foster friendship and cross-cultural understanding. The delegation also visited the International School, where senior students were kind enough to give them a tour of the campus and facilities.

They also had a meaningful opportunity to visit the Ministry of Education and Department of Tourism and meet with their executives. The students gave presentations about their schools, their hometowns, and the upcoming Expo 2025, Osaka, Kansai, Japan. At the Department of Tourism, they also gained an insight into Seychelles' tourism policy, including sustainable tourism.

On the weekend, they interacted with students at the National Conservatoire Performing Arts through a Japanese anime song and traditional dance. They also enjoyed learning to play the "moutya", the traditional drum of Seychelles. Together with the students, they visited Seychelles National Museum of History and the Craft Village.

This visit created lasting and warm memories for both Japan and Seychelles. It was inspiring to witness the vibrant people-to-people exchange, which is instrumental in deepening our cultural ties and bilateral relations. We hope that these promising students will continue to build bridges between Japan and Seychelles in the years to come.
