Japan and Seychelles Goodwill Exercise

   On Thursday 20th June 2024, the Japan Training Squadron, JS Kashima and JS Shimakaze, of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) conducted a goodwill exercise with the Seychelles Coast Guard Ship Topaz to strengthen their cooperation towards realizing a free and open Indo-Pacific. The Squadron made a port call at Victoria in Seychelles from Monday 17th June to Thursday 20th June 2024.

  

 

What is the Japan Training Squadron?

 
   The Japan Training Squadron, composed of JS KASHIMA and JS SHIMAKAZE, is commanded by Rear Admiral NISHIYAMA Takahiro, and carries approximately 570 people, including about 190 officer trainees who graduated from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Officer Candidate School in Japan. Their visit to Port Victoria is part of the Overseas Training Cruise 2024, which runs from 20th May to 11th November 2024. The cruise aims to provide officer trainees with hands-on training to acquire basic knowledge and skills required for their service, develop their global awareness through the joint exercise and other activities, and promote international goodwill with their visiting countries.
