Japan Training Squadron Port Call at Victoria

The Japan Training Squadron, JS Kashima and JS Shimakaze, of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) will make a friendly port call at Victoria in Seychelles from Monday 17th June to Thursday 20th June 2024. Their visit is aimed at overseas training and promoting friendship and goodwill between Japan and Seychelles. The following events are scheduled during their stay:
Open to Public: Visit to JS Kashima and JS Shimakaze
Date & Time: Tuesday 18th June, 10:00am-11:30am & 1:00pm-3:00pm
Venue: Victoria Port (New Port)
*For safety reasons, wheelchairs and crutches are not permitted.
Japanese Drums, Martial Arts & Brass Band Performance
Date & Time: Wednesday 19th June, 12:00pm-1:30pm
Venue: In Front (Veranda) of National Museum of History
What is the Japan Training Squadron?
The Japan Training Squadron, composed of JS KASHIMA and JS SHIMAKAZE, is commanded by Rear Admiral NISHIYAMA Takahiro, and carries approximately 570 people, including about 190 officer trainees who graduated from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Officer Candidate School in Japan. Their visit to Port Victoria is part of the Overseas Training Cruise 2024, which runs from 20th May to 11th November 2024. The cruise aims to provide officer trainees with hands-on training to acquire basic knowledge and skills required for their service, develop their global awareness through the joint exercise and other activities, and promote international goodwill with their visiting countries.
