Reception to Celebrate the 64th Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan

On 24th February 2023, H.E. Mr. OKANIWA Ken, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Seychelles, hosted a reception to celebrate the 64th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.
The reception was attended by President Ramkalawan, Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Radegonde and many other dignitaries, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps as well as guests from the private sector and Japanese residents in Seychelles.
At the outset of his remarks, Ambassador OKANIWA expressed his deepest condolences and sympathy to those affected by the explosion at Providence and the flooding and landslides caused by heavy rains in December last year, as well as his heartfelt gratitude for President Ramkalawan’s message of condolences and sympathy to those affected by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in January this year, and added his sincere hope that both countries will overcome their respective difficulties.
With regard to the bilateral relations between Japan and Seychelles, Ambassador OKANIWA mentioned that both countries are based on mutual respect and shared values such as the rule of law and democracy, and that Seychelles is an important partner for Japan in promoting the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), which aims to promote maritime security and connectivity in the Indo-Pacific region. He also expressed his expectation that cooperation between the two countries will be further strengthened through the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting to be held this year ahead of TICAD 9 to be held in Yokohama next year.
At the reception, participants enjoyed Japanese rice and sake. The event also promoted Japan’s attractions with the help of the Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) and Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture.
